How to take outdoor shots?

What settings would be good shots for outdoors? Such as macros. I used 100 ISO and 90 for a shutter speed on macros. What about just just the landscape things outdoors taking a picture of maybe a mountain or something larger (not macro).

What is a good lens for this type of shots?

Thanks.

Don't know which Camera you use but I use a Tamron 18-50mm f/2.8 & Canon XT for all of my landscape pictures. Shoot early mornings and late afternoon as mid-day will mess up most photos. Don't shoot things like trees, power lines or other objects with a really bright background as you will get what is called chromatic adoration (CA) which looks like a purple halo around objects. For macro work, I REALLY need a lens for that. Canon's 100mm macro and 60mm macro are both very good lenses but I'm saving up for a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 ($900) so, until then I'll just have to make do with my Canon 28-105mm or Canon 50mm f/1.8.

When shooting macros you really want a blurry background so the longer the lens (mm) + the lower the f/ the better.

Other tips would be to use a polarizer or UV filter during the day (make sure to get a multicoated filter too â€"œ not the ones you find at Best Buy) if you have DSLR. Try to use 'leading lines' and the 'rule of thirds' in your photos as well. You can Google those terms to get much more info.

Do you mean Tamron AF17-50mm f/2.8 ??

t5,

As I answered you in your PM question, your best bet is to get a book and learn to use your camera. You'll never be successful trying to duplicate someone else's settings. Every scene is different.

I, very highly, recommend John Shaw's "Closeups in Nature." It helped me bunches.

Yep yep, I have the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR LD Aspherical (IF)... I was reading about a Nikon lens (borrowing father inlaw's camera/lens) and I guess I made a typo.
