How would treat this tort? Weirdness going on.

Was admiring a tort colony I put in the tank recently. Was looking really good. I dipped it before putting it in but noticed within a few weeks that a branch on the front looked almost rotted so I clipped it off.

Inadvertently looked at the back side of today and noticed it looked tore up back there too.

Can't tell if this is a pest or disease...

Do I dip it and hope for the best or frag the hell out of it and throw the bad part away?

Thoughts?

Doesn't look like a pest to me. It could be anything really such as water quality or parameter stability or bacterial infection the list goes one and on.. I'd need a full tank run down to be of any assistance.

Dip it. If it dies after the dip, then it would die in fragging anyway. If anything comes off, then let us know.

Appreciate the feedback.

If you look at the picture showing the damage, you'll notice a couple branches I cut off. One broke off I think... The other had paly's all over it so I clipped it and moved somewhere else.

That piece seems to be doing ok.

However, I noticed that there are some small holes when you look in the white area of the clipped branches? Is that normal when you cut a piece off, or is something boring it's way through the coral?

Normal. Sounds like it is adjusting to its new home. Do you have many acros?
Yep. Lots of sps. Everything else looks reasonably happy.

Numbers are all good.

It's like the entire back of the coral has deteriorated.

Glad to hear the holes are normal and not creatures boring in.

I think I'm going to frag and dip the frags . Backside looks like crap and algae is now growing on it.

If your first dip wasnt effective then already infected the tank. I would do 1 of 2 things. Either super glue the dying areas to stop the recession or frag it up. Dip the base that still has some flesh after fragging to see if you can find pests. Just my 2 cents...but I would not stress out the entire colony by dipping again because it is under serious duress as it is. What are the water parameters? any serious changes lately? is it still peeling?

Are the bad areas looking like they are rotting? Are they soft to the touch even the skeleton to a point?

Are you running leds? Looks like the coraline is so thick that your coral may be suffering from low light on the backside. Clear glass gives a good reflection where that can't be the case here.
