Hows this for tank deminsions?

I was thinking of some deminsions for the tank im going to get once I move. I want to stick with my current stand as it is brand new and has plenty of space inside for almost anything I want. It's a 6 ft stand, but its front to back is only 18 inches.

I was thinking of this for the tank itself,

Tank Length = 60.5 inches
Tank Width = 18 inches
Tank Height = 42 inches

Tank volume is calculated as
Tank Volume = 198 Gallons

Either that or build some kind of extention onto the stand I have to make it wider possibly to about 25 inches, making it...

Tank Length = 60.5 inches
Tank Width = 25 inches
Tank Height = 42 inches

Tank volume is calculated as
Tank Volume = 275 Gallons

The length cant really change and the heights can be adjusted but I would like to keep the height stated. If my tank has that height my total setup would stand 83 inches, not including any light setup or canopy I would have. :D

Im not to concerned about the depth but staring at my 90 gal tank next to my stand I think 18 inch depth might look a little off for such a tall tank. Any opinions on this? And possible a safe way to add an extenstion to the current stand to add the extra 7 inches in width?

the deeper the better. i would go with th second option - 25" wide. but the 42" height leads me to believe its a FOWLR tank. true?

Actually no it will be a mixed reef. Obviously the corals that need the most light towards the top but i will be running 3 to 4 400w MH's on it to reach as deep as I can.

Ya i was thinking the same thing about the wider tank but im not to sure how to go about building the add on to my stand now. and its a big difference in gallons, another huge reason to lean towards the wider tank.

Im actually really liking the school. like every school there is a few things i would change but hey what can you do. i see your in baking. did you go to school? where do you work at?

this is my brothers name but i work in a Italian restaurant for 5 years.. though high school and some college now i am full time..major is business but would like to open a restaurant some day. i am only 20 though so school, work and reef tanks cost a lot so only have a 75 g the wide will surely be nicer...but either one will be sweet. have you thought about 1000 watt. i don't know how much they cause but they would reach the bottom for sure.

Ya thats my goal as well to open a restaurant, lol an italian one at that. after this school im going to get a degree in business and one in hospitality. I am only 19 so im right there with you on being strapped for cash. my tank now is only a 55 and i dont care to much for the width now so im gonna go with the 25 inch width tank. I'll def have to look into the 1000 watt's still pretty new to lighting but i didnt relize they made anything over 400 watts :/

yeah 55 are a bit thin for my taste still nice though...i am sure some people use 1000 watt halides to reach almost 4 feet down. the hospitality degree is smart. what are you planning for the sump or refuge there is a local guy here oh make custom acrylic tanks and does sump/refuge that are amazing i am having him do a 40 gallon its 45x15x15 or 16...i'll pm you the link i am not sure if we can post businesses on here.

Have you ever worked on a tank that was 42" deep ? Is so, then cool, if not might want to set up a cardboard box that is that deep and see how it is for moving stuff around on the bottom. Now is the time to figure that stuff out.
