Humidity control

Hi guys. My contractor and I are discussing humidity control for the livingroom. Tank is open top with 16 T5 bulbs. I expect it to get a little humid.

I have a dedicated split AC coming.

I'm debating if adding vents would be useful? maybe I won't have to turn on the split all the time?

couple options I can think of:

1) Install 1-2 vents right above the tank. with dryer booster fan outside.

2) Install 1-2 vents with normal bathroom fans?

3) Air Exchanger Ventilator?

thanks!

You can buy a Hygrometer - Pretty cheap which works like the Ranco Temperature controllers. You can use that to trigger ventilation fans when the humidity builds up.

I would use ventilation fans. There are some pretty nice Turbine style fans. They go inline in the duct. They are all plastic - so the salt humidity you are pulling out won't eat the blades up. They are pricier than the cheap galvanized fans, but they are plastic, move more air, are more efficient and are much quieter if not silent.

I installed these fans when I did my Master Bath remodel. The ones I bought are a Royal blue color and from Australia. The distributor was up in Valencia. They were almost $200. But the value is there - because they are silent.

Also another option if you want to insure quiet operation is buy 220v ventilator fans and run them at 110. They make no noise at all.

I got a vent fan for my fish room with humidity control that turns it on based on the setting. Works well and pretty efficient at 11w in high speed. I also have a dehumidifier that I can use as backup.

thanks guys. I was just afraid the vents won't do much.

going to order one of these larger sized turbine vents. 12-14" around $200.

hopefully this helps on a daily basis. In my personal room with the 150gal, feels super humid

do you think the humidity control is needed? I was planning on it to run 24/7.

Does your fan run most of the time?
