Hydroids - what kills them?

I have heard Joe's Juice might. I have some aptasia in my 10 gallon so I am going to buy some anyway. I also heard kalk paste. Not sure what that is or how to make it. I have a few colonies growing that I guess need to be taken out. So suggestions on what takes these guys out.

Thanks

I used some Kalk Paste, which worked somewhat, and 3 peppermint shrimp and that seems to have finished them off.

I got 2 peppermint shrimp but they only got one of the 2 that I could see. So in addition, I have some joes juice at my doorstep right now.
However, from what everyone says, they reproduce at a fast rate so I guess the most logical thing would be to attack attack attack!

in the 4 tanks i've had.. they always have a hydroid take over then i never see them again. they havent harmed anything. do you have seahorses or is it just something you want to rid your self of. i've never had any harm from letting them be.

well I know that they can sting things. I don't seahorses but I like a friendly environment :) They are multiplying which is why I want to take them out. I have at least 3 patches I can see with quite a few heads in each patch.

I didn't know peppermints would take these out. I thought that was just aptasia.

The two I had in my 10 gallon tank were aptasia. Joe's juice nuked them out. All gone. That stuff is potent. The stuff I have in my 24 gallon is what I have heard referred to as hydroids or hydroid anemones. Basic they are colonies of little anemone looking things. The stalks are yellowish and the heads have a yellow-brown color. They are similar to a feather duster in that the stalks seem to be rigid and the heads retracked.

I know these are not featherdusters though. I have seen threads on RC about them but of course the search function isn't working for me. I will try to find a link or some google images while I waste away at work today.

Just take a cup and put some water in it, add the pickling lime until it's a thick putty like mix. If you get too thick add some more water. That's all Joe's juice is in a watery version with a little bit of salt added.
