HYPO treatment for Kole tang

purchased a Y/E Kole tang 11/30 and knew that it did have ick after it was bagged at the LFS, SO yes I did go ahead and get a sick fish.
it went straight to the QT tank once it was home and I am doing hypo treatment so as of 12/3 the salinity has been around 13%. this is checked every day. I have also been doing a 100% WC in the QT tank about every 3 or 4 days, this fish really mucks the water up. anyway the fish is doing really well, eating well , swims and no visible signs of ick.I have used a magnified glass to look at his body. and I do not see any visible white spots

Oh the QT is a 10 gal with a HOB cheap filter. it is BB and when I do my WC I've thrown out the fill/ fiber that goes in the HOB .

I don't want to here any CRAP from any tang police on the size of my QT tank. the fish is lucky I'm saving his little butt, and once he has the all clear will go into a 4 ft - 125

My question is when can I start start raising the salinity back to normal?? I would say the fish has been at the 13% mark for 15 days.

once you see the last trophont fall off of the fish, you can start a 4-6 week countdown..i prefer 6-8 to be sure, but some people don't like the extra wait!!if you don't see any spots for the next couple days, go ahead and start your countdown..if a spot shows up , you must start the 4-6 week countdown again!! good job with the water changes!!!

well...i had two fairy wrasses in hypo..towards the last week they started acting really wierd doing barrel rolls and stuff (if u want i posted a video on here a few days ago)

last night my local reef club had a meeting and i started talking to one of the guys and he said the same thing happened to him when he had 2 tangs in hypo..

he was explaining it how their swim bladder (the part of the fish that affects the swim bladder) was swollen and the fish started acting really strange...so he reaised the salinity and almost instantly the fish was fine.

so if ur kole tang starts acting really wierd and lethargic and swimming on its side then start raising the salinity

oh yeah, i saw the video..i have never personally seen that happen after hypo..did the salinity ever get below 1.009???? did you check it with a swing arm hydrometer or a refractometer???

so far so good, I started to raise the salinity on 12/22 and by this afternoon with one more quart of salt water the salinity will be back to 1.023. the fish is still active, swimming, and eating . now to just keep a eye on him to make sure nothing returns.

I was wondering for those that have failed at the hypo treatment how long did it take until you where able to notice the ick was back after you had your salinity back to normal. I guess i want a time line.

well, only keeping it in hypo from Dec 3 -22, is not enough time..it could easily come back!!!!! 6 weeks is the BARE minimum that i would keep it in hypo..you are going to need to keep it in qt for 2 weeks and watch it daily!!! being that the treatment was stopped prematurely, it could actually come back and it could take more than 2 weeks to present itself...
