Hyposalinity in DT for Ick?

300 gallon tank. 14 fish. Too many to quarantine. A few inverts in tank, but can be removed.

Have an ich outbreak - added a fish after cutting quarantine period short (2 weeks only) and that's prbably where it came from.

Blue Tang - white spots everywhere.

Clown Trigger - no white spots, but has some cloudy spots on the fins. Is this ich related?

Harlequin Tuskfish - looks like one of the fins is either slightly rotting (or maybe the fish was bitten...not sure). Could this be ick related?

Guinea Fowl Puffer - no external signs of sickness, but he has not eaten for 2 days. Anyone who has a puffer knows this is definitely not right.

No other signs of illness amongs other inhabitants. The blue tang definitely has ich, but not sure if others are ich related. Thoughts?

Also, I was planning on doing hypo in DT - will lower to 1.09 gradually, maybe about .02 a day - is that about right? Is there anything else I should do?

Doing Hypo in DT will get you varying opinions. I am just bringing my DT out of Hypo as we speak. It is a 220 FOWLR but the rock only had very few inverts on or living in it. The issue is you can do it but you can get a huge ammonia spike when all the inverts on the LR die off and it will take some time for the biological filter to take a hold again. There are probably other issues going on besides Ich and I would suspect the Ich is secondary to the main problem. I had a few fish die during the process for me but I am positive it was not due to Hypo. They had other issues that I was not aware of until after I was in Hypo. If you choose to do it, I recommend bring the tank down to 1.008 salinity by using a refractometer, not a hydrometer. The other is you better have some ammonia reducer like Prime on hand. At least that is what I used. You will need a huge amount of RO water to bring down the salinity. I used about 275 gallons to bring my system, which is 250 gal, down to 1.008. You will also need to have a huge amount of salt on hand for when you come out of Hypo after at least 6 weeks.

This process worked for me but it was not easy due to the size of my system. Also, I brought the salinity down in about 7 days and I am taking at least 10 to bring it up. The main concern is bringing up the salinity. You need to take your time on that but not as much of a concern for bringing it down.

Again, this was my experience and what I did. Hope this will help.

And by the way, pictures would help on the infected fish. There is a wealth of knowledge from people on this site that can help you with identifying the problems but they will need to have pics to give you an accurate diagnosis.
