Hyposalinity Treatment

Hi, I found some ich on my clownfish, and have been reading how to do Hyposalinity Treatment. I am not clear about the following:

  1. After catching all the fishes, should i just drop the fishes right in the hospital tank with hyposalinity 1.009 for the best hyposalinity results, or should I acclimate the fishes (how long)? Or, should the fish be in the hospital tank with the same water from DT to start with lowering the salinity gradually (how long)?
  2. Do I need to do anything about the main display tank waiting for the whole HT process to complete in 8 weeks?
My main tank: 90G, 2 clownfishes, 1 blue tang, 1 yellow tang, 1 randall goby, 1 ywg, 1 scooter, some corals, 1 bta, and cleaners, etc.

The hospital hyposalinity tank: a 30 gallon biocube nano tank.

Thanks very much for your advices.
Sean

I am sorry for your troubles. Do some reading on the various proven ich treatments.

This is a good read on various options:

For me, the Tank Transfer Method has been the better solution.

Here is a good link on Hypo:

No matter which method you decide to use, you must treat all of your fish simultaneously. And you must leave you tank completely fishless ( inverts and corals are OK ) for a minimum of 72 days.

Good luck!

1. transfer all the fish into the qt with about the same salinity of the display water. then lower the qt salinity to 1.008 gradually over 48 hours.

2. fallow the system(dt+sump) fishless for at least 72 days.

ime, hyposalinity didn't work even though i kept the salinity at 1.008 using a refractometer. tank transfer method and cupramine always work for me. i prefer tank transfer method more. good luck.

For TTM, are the 5-gallon buckets big enough for all my fishes (with 20% water change everyday during the TTM. Is it good idea or no?) :

2 1.5-inch clownfishes, 1 1.5-in blue tang, 1 2-in yellow tang , 1 2-in randall goby, 1 1-n ywg, and one 1.5-in scooter dragonet.

maybe another stupid question: does it make sense to do TTM with hyposalinity water? I would need to prepare clean water anyway. I don't see any penalty with this except the first time time preparing lowering the salinity?

imo, 5G buckets would be too small for 7 fish even though they're still small. i've never done TTM together with hyposalinity. you need to be spot on with salinity when doing hyposalinity method. TTM is pretty straight forward so i don't wanna complicate things by mixing methods. but if you wanna save some salts, you could do the TTM in lower salinity.

But you could use 2 sets of 5g buckets.
I wouldn't mess with hypo as part of TTM. Keeping fish at the same salinity as your DT will be just one less thing to worry about.
