My neighbors probably thought I was nuts this morning as they watched me crawl around the yard.

My Gitzo will go almost flat but I also have this little guy:

I've since replaced the head with a RRS BH-25.

That's nice, I need to get something like that. Some of the nature shots I've been doing would be nice from a low perspective.

Here is my mini. This is what I use when using a long lens and having to do it handheld. I can adjust the Mini-pod so the legs rest on my chest and the camera on my head.

LOL - yeah, they probably thought you ate some of them or something! You don't have a Magic bus parked in your driveway do you?

Doug - is that first shot a still life or the natural arrangement?

Jesse, it could be the shrooms I ate in the past causing a flashback, or maybe it's just me, but is that last shot a little wavy or something? Love the pattern and alignment of the them though!

The only shot I can think of I have with fungus....

Louis, I don't know what you mean by wavy, but it was a weird shot. The log was in a swamp, I wasn't goin in.

Doug, what kind of tripod is that? Is it enough to support your 5D + lens setup?

It's made by Manfrotto and goes under the model 345. It consists of a set of 209 legs and a 482 micro ballhead. I pulled the 482 off and replaced it with a Really Right Stuff BH-25. It works fine but you do have to pay attention to which direction the legs stick out for maximum stability. Live-view helps too as it's about impossible to get your eye up to the viewfinder without an angle-finder.

I agree with all this, but want to add something else. When out on a hike they are great to have. I leave my larger tripod in the car most of the time and just take the mini. To get a bit of height, just use large rocks or trees. I also carry a remote shutter and alot of times "palm" the legs of the mini, if the rock or tree isn't quite flat.
