The only method that was successful for me was removing all of the liverock. While it's wet and not dying, I would mix a Kalk paste (really thick) and paint and plaster the stuff all over the offending aptasias. Let it dry enough to stick and then gently place back in holding tank. Let it sit for a good 30 minutes before putting any flow of any kind to it.
The Kalk encrusts and then you can handle them and put them back in the display.
Then every couple weeks carefully nuke some with flowable mix through a pipette (to get around all your good stuff) wtih all flow and power heads off. Just have to watch during application that it doesn't flow onto good stuff.
Took some time but it worked. Since I'm a scorched earth kind of guy I didn't want to have a butterfly just on the off chance it may get them or just keep them at bay. When I trade with folks, my scorched earth policy insures that I don't give them these hitchhikers.
It's possible that the peppermints are getting plenty to eat in other forms. Or yours just doesn't do it. If you can somehow starve the peppermints, they may do their work.
Just an idea. The one that is working for me came from phishy.
Pearlscale butterfly fish they aren't really reef safe but if you don't mind some nipping they will eat the majanos away. Also any aptasia also mine liked palys at first then decided majanos where better flavored I figure they might get all of them ate in a yearlol.
I used the kalk past to nuke a large number of the big guys, but could never really keep the population managable. I bought (1) peppermint shrimp from phishy's about 4-5 weeks ago. I cannot find a single aptasia in my 29. Before adding the shrimp there were 100+. The one thing I tried that may or may not have worked was that I reduced the amount of food I was putting into the system. Good luck!

I agree. I had no results from my shrimp until I set them up in a separate quarantine type tank. I would take a offending rock out of the main tank and put it in the shrimp tank. The shrimp would immediately pour over the rock. Rocks I couldn't remove I treated by injecting kalk paste directly into the aptasia. Just watch how much you are dosing in a small tank. I have been aptasia free for years.
