I hate Hermit Crabs!

They are attacking my percs! I'm so sick of it, I have officially decided im taking every last one out of my tank! Any suggestions on what kind of snail I shoud replace them with?

I have one perc with no top fin( hes balding) and no under body fin. Then my female is missing half her tail and the whole inside of her left arm fin. My beautiful clown fish are now gimps!

 are you sure its the hermets...LMAO.... i dont think it really is... sounds like fin / tail rott... you might want to QT those fish... i have NEVER seen super aggressive hermets like the ones in your tank....

IF and i stress -IF- the hermets are eating at ur fish, its cause they are suffering from some sort of outer body disease and are prolly in too much pain to fend the hermets off or swim away... but i HIGHLY DOUBT the hermets are catching ur Percs... if im wrong... shoot me!

Its not the hermit crabs. I bet there is another type of predator in the tank that you dont know about (i.e. Mantis or somthing).

Scott

My hermits used to pinch on to my panther grouper's bottom lip sometimes while he wes relaxing on the bottom. They never did any damage, but it was pretty funny to watch him shake them off. But I will attest that I have seen hermits try to take advantage of sleeping fish. Maybe what's happening to your clowns, but I don't see how they would allow a hermit to do so much damage without just swimming away.

good luck,

corey

the fish is too weak to defend itself... simple answer... QT the fish asap or i bet there will be a loss soon...

clowns move WAY TOO MUCH to fall victom to a bunch of hammer sword wielding hermet crabs... trust me...ive seen it before... WAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the hermet crab even considers swinging its hammer sword, the clown will counter with a rapid pulse fire that will knock the hermet clean out of his shell...
there is some other issue here.... but if you still INSIST that it is the hermets... i will gladly trade you 2 packs of sour green Now or Laters from last Halloween, but you have to pay for shipping :D i would like to see them try that attack on my Maroons :p

the fish is very healthy... she has had it for 2+ years. shes a mean little sucker. if you can give me a disease that will cause a fish to lose an entire fin all the way down to the body overnight then let us know.

i agree with scott. i think there is something in her tank that is trying to eat her fish, but when we transfered to the 20 i examined every rock and didnt see anything. i dont think its a mantis because i dont hear any popping.

ive seen what she is talking about and it looks like something large tried to grab it by its fin.

Fin Rott does that right down to the body. Not sure if its possible overnight though. But I cant understand how a clownfish will let itself get attacked by a "hermit crab."

Its not like tha hermit crab is chasing it up and down the rocks and can keep up. Just doesnt make sense.

The fish probably is weak and is laying on the sand, and the hermit crab attacks.

And if its neither, then that fish is coo coo for co co puffs.

Pics please.

Thanks

Sam

i really have no idea.... the fish looks (from the pic) healthy enough to not be batteling fin rott... anyone else... looks like you have some unknown ambush indian resident.... :SCALP:

I had a similar issue.

Never was able to find the culprit, but when I moved my tank, I found a couple crabs in the rockwork (2-3", mean looking crabs). I suspect they were the ones ripping the fins of my fish and eating a few chromis and a six-line wrasse.

Hope you find the culprit.
