I hate Hermit Crabs!

aww... i was really looking forward to a trigger... a Sam... are any triggers SAFE w/ clowns... i didnt know they were that big of a threat. i wanted a cross hatched

Its a hit and miss with some triggers. Kind of like when you buy a dwarf angel. 50/50 chance they'll be SPS pickers.

Clown triggers are cool docile guys. But there are tons of species some in wich are way more aggressive then others.

You'll just have to read on others people experiences/posts on RC and figure out wich one you would like to chance on.

the fish is very healthy... she has had it for 2+ years. shes a mean little sucker. if you can give me a disease that will cause a fish to lose an entire fin all the way down to the body overnight then let us know.

i agree with scott. i think there is something in her tank that is trying to eat her fish, but when we transfered to the 20 i examined every rock and didnt see anything. i dont think its a mantis because i dont hear any popping.

ive seen what she is talking about and it looks like something large tried to grab it by its fin.

FYI, Mantis dont make the popping noises your thinking of. Thats pistol shrimp. If the fins are just disapearing then its got to be a predator. If they are slowly dieing off then I think its some type of infection.

Some simple facts.
Hermit crabs are not going to bother healthy fish, unless they are starving! My fire fish and scooter blennies sleep in or on the sand and have never been bothered by them. How is a crab going to tear off the top fins on a healthy fish???
Just because you have had a fish for two years does not mean it is healthy! If you are not feeding your fish the proper diet and supplementing their diet with vitamins they will become depleted over time. IE the fish is no longer healthy!
Fin rot can accrue almost over night. It is an indication something is not right in your tank.
Your job is to figure what that is! My guess is diet or water condition! To high a PH will cause fin rot. Do a little research fast before it is too late for your clowns.
Good luck!

Here is a thread you will find informative on proper nutrition.

My fish are healthy! I feed them regulary, they eat like champs. I do regular water changes, and my water quality is good.
I know that it is something sttacking my dish, but i cannot find anything. Besides taking my enitre tanks apart I need to find a way to catch these little ****s (Hermits, or whatever it is thats eating my fish)!

:lol:LMAO!!!!!!
please dont take this incorrect... but those fish are NOT healthy.... this may not be your fault... but the fact of the matter is, their condition clearly states otherwise.
~sigh.
post those pictures on http://forum.marinedepot.com/Group8.aspx and ask Kelly what she thinks... she is the only person qualified to give a proper diagnostic on this matter...
good luck,
keep us posted on progress.
if ur serious about saving those clowns... this is your only hope!

BTW:
i admire that :D
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but... a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn... that was fun!"

im not trying to get defensive here, but i am confident her fish are healthy. ive been in this hobby a long time and have never seen any disease that can do this. her fish look fine at night and in the morning an entire fin is gone and all fleshy like something tore it. now i am no disease expert but her fish eat a variety of foods from formula 1 mysis and vitamin enriched brine shrimp. i make sure her water quality is good because i hear about it if it isnt.

now the other night we stayed up to see if we could find anything and I noticed that both clowns sleep behind her torch that they host on a rock so it could easily be some sort of crab. most likely not a hermit but something else. we tried setting a trap but all we caught was some nassarius snails. we are stumped here. I do have a disease question tho. If it is fin rot would it take one fin and then that fin heals then a few weeks later another fin is torn off? I mean ive seen fin rot before and it would gradually move down the fin towards the body in a few days. In her case the entire fin is gone overnight.

okay, you need to set up a tent in front of your tank, get a red light and just camp out and find the culprit. when you find it, catch it, then start a campfire and "voila" a meal in the morning.:D
