at night my temp drops very low and gets really cold me in tank. i have a one 150 watt heater. but it still doesnt do it . what should i do. ? i think this is what is killing my coral slowly.

perhaps the heater is broken or not properly set. 150w should warm a 29 very easily.

if the heater is working properly, your AC may by set to low (LOL)

the problem is i have a wall unit right in front of it. i live in the garage so the insulation is very good

sounds like the problem right there. you need to move the tank out of the direct flow of the AC. the temp swing when it turns on is probably more of a problem then the actual temperature.

my first salt water tank in michigan had an electric heater nearby (i lived in a cabin with almost no insulation), and the temp swings were horrible. none of my fish died, but i had frequent bouts with ich until i moved it.

A 150W should have no problems heating that size tank.

I second the opinion that the heater is not set correctly or it is just not working right in the 1st place.

so what should i do. the heater is not in my main tank , its in my sump. in the chamber where my cheto is. if that helps

Try adjusting the heater to a higher setting that should increase the tank temp, you should see some indication that the heater is turning on like a little orange light or something.

If it's on the max setting already it's game over, just trash it an buy a new one.

JUST TRYING TO AVOID PUTING THE HEATER IN THE MAIN TANK

The location of the heater should not matter.

If you have it set on 82 but the heater cannot keep up with the temperature drop then the conclusion must be that either

A. the heater is malfunctioning in some way IE the thermostat is not working properly or the heating element is not heating properly.

B. The heater is not large enough to keep up with the temperature swings of the rooms ambient temperature and the heat output of your lights.

And either way, the solution is a new heater. I'm going with choice A, I think the heater either isn't coming on, or the heating element isn't getting hot. 150w in <30g of water should be more than adequate if working properly.
