Hello fellow Ceph heads. Like the title says I have just received three Seph. O cuttlefish(European cuttlefish). I have a 600 gallon combined system which I use to raise and study Ceph's in a reef environment. Various colleges, schools and home study groups come to my house to study invertebrate biology. After extensive preparation my system was finally ready and I was finally able to acquire three of the coveted Sephia. Officanilis. The point of acquiring this species to to hopefully get a few breeding groups established and make fertilized eggs more readily available in the good old U.S.A. I plan on ordering some more when they become available to me. Out of the three I have now I only plan on keeping a male and female. Right now they are to young to sex or I would have just gotten two. I may sell one of them to help cover the expense's associated with maintenance. I will not advertise on Ebay. I would prefer if a true ceph head from this or a similar forum acquired the animal. If any one is interested please make an offer. If I don't respond please don't be offened as I do not have much time to spend on the computer. If I find an offer that I like I will take the time to send you a messgae back of course. Also I would gladly take any advice on converting them from live food to frozen. Any tricks would be appreciated. I have had two other Seph O but they fed fairly quickly from my hand and I can't remember how I got them converted to frozen. All my Bi-macs(octopus) just grabbed the food from tongs. These guys don't seem to respond to that yet.

I am better with Ceph's than I am with computers so I don't have any pictures. It took all of two days to get the cuttles to eat frozen food from my hand. That is one less thing to worry about. They don't seem to get along as well as my other pair had. I will probably be selling one of the three shortly after I sex them. They are in a 150 Gallon reef which is part of a larger reef system. I could always house the odd ball in my 220 gallon SPS tank. That would be pretty cool! My Bi-Mac might go in there for now! He doesn't bother any fish only eats what I offer him other than the occasional snail or Hermit, but who could blame him for snacking!

What price are you asking for or looking to get out of the third one that you might be selling. I used to be a Marine Biology student and my area of interest was/is cephlapods. I raised and bread three species of octopuss but my favorite ceph. that I worked with was a pair of cuttlefish that I raised from babies. Since I have left the marine biology department I have lost my contacts and ability to get a hold of another cuttlefish. I would be very interested in the one you are offering if the price is right. Write me back.

How large is the Sepia O. that you plan on selling? I have been trying to get these cuttles for some time now. I am EXTREMELY interested in any offspring you may have later on as well. I have a 135 gallon tank that could house thsi creature quite well.

I lost the third cuttle. If I can get the other two to breed I will be selling eggs. The other two ganged up on him one day before I could get him out. I just hope I have a male and female left instead of two of the same. Right now the cuttles are about 4"-5". They eat frozen shrimp and silversides.l They were very easy to train to eat.

Where did you get the cuttles to begin with? Did you get the import permits and all that junk or just luck out at a local store?

Some copper was inadvertently introduced into the system in phyto-plankton. Unfortunately I lost my cuttles and Octo's both.:(

Sorry to hear it my friend. Such are the sorrows of this hobby. When even the accidental introduction of a foreign substance can wipe out what could have taken years to build; in a second. Hope you can find more. And good luck.
