I hope my sun coral will be OK

I'm an idiot.

I put a new leather next to my sun coral last week. I wanted to put the leather in the sandbed while I acclimated it to my lighting. It was about 2" away from the sun coral (upstream from the sun coral), and the leather itself is only a 2" piece.

Well, for the whole time, my sun coral didn't open. It usually opens at evening feeding time, and stays open all night.

I moved the leather away today, having realized what was happening. It barely opened at first. I fed the few polyps that opened, and every half hour, another polyp would open up. So, it took several hours to get most of them to open. I'm hoping it will recover and start looking full and happy again.

I just wanted to post this for anyone else having problems with sun corals not opening.

sun corals a very reactive to the leathers "poison". i have had the same thing happen to mine when I fraged my umbrella leather. It will recover. It will just take a little time. Once the new leather is aclimated to you setup, and dosn't feel stressed everything will be fine. Did you notice any changes in your mushrooms, if you have any when you introduced your leather?

Luckily, the sun coral was back to its usual routine in a few days. It doesn't look like there were any permanent problems caused.

I haven't noticed problems with the mushrooms after adding leathers. I usually try to put new carbon in when I add leathers, just to keep the tank happy.
