I bought the coralife pro metal halide 24" light. Well I just got in in the mail today and it is awesome. I oredered a 25 gal tank that should be in today for the new light. The light is 24" and the tank is 24" so i figured it is the perfect size. Well the light is really wide and i don't think it will fit the tank due to how wide the light is. The light is 15" wide and the tank is 12" wide, with he mounting brackets it's even wider. what do i do, did i do the brackets wrong, do you think it will fit? What do i do, hanging fromt he celing isn't a option. The 25 gal tank has the same demetions as the 20 gal high, just taller. Here is some pics, please help me...

It will fit this way

I have the same light on my 58 just a larger version. 3 choices.

Hang it from the ceiting or bracket from the wall.

Get another light.

Mount a piece of acrylic or a board to each end of the tank to make it deeper to set the legs on.

Good luck.

Chioce 1 is the best, if you not like that idea then go with the 3 rd chioce. If you need some help, just shoot me a PM and we will figure something out for you.

I would try a strip of Acrylic on each end of the tank held down by aquarium sealant. You could start it flush with the front side and let the excess hang over the back so that it would not look bad when viewing the tank from the front.

Is the tank mail order? If it is through a local lfs have them order a different larger tank, 30 gallon breeder is the perfect size. They will be glad to upgrade you and you wont have to worry about the light falling in the tank.

I would but the tank is already there, i just have to pick it up. And a 30 gal greeder is alot longer than 24" so how would that work?

The glass box will liklely be the least expensive part of the setup. Your new light would be a great light on a larger tank.... Everything is upgradeable in the future, but the toughest thing to change is the whole tank... still the cheapest. IMO I would go with the largest tank that will work with the other equipment. Best of luck! .02

Well i dont recommend on mickey mouseing a braket for it to sit on. I can see in the future......

I see, I see great danger when the light falls on the floor or in the tank. You would be much better off hanging it. If you bump it no problem. It just swings. And you can adjust the hight. If you make it bearly sit on the tank. Good chance it will get bumped and fall. Plus if i remember what i heard those legs arent the strongest.

How about building a custom canopy and hang it in there? Then it can hang out the back and noone will see it. Just a thought.

hahahaha me build a canopy? I don't even want to know how that would turn out lol  If they made canopys that would fit i would buy it though. :D

your not going to be able to build a canopy to fit it if its bigger then the tank its self. Your better off hanging it from the ceiling or from a bracket hanging on the wall.

but i rent and i don't think i'm allowed to put huge holes in the walls, plus i'm not good at doing that kind of stuff and wouldn't it just rip out of the wall or celing?

i'm really thinking about making a extra lip tpe thing on the back of the tank with superglue and sceliant so it will support the back legs. I don't know though, because it would have to bet totally stable. I'm getting the tank today so i'll actually see how it fits on the tank and go from there i guess, i'll post pics of it when i pick it up.

you`re a brave woman.......i would hang it .....and if the landlord say`s something ill hang him as well......lol

hang it, and fill the holes when you move out.... and if you dont think you can do it, get someone who can to help you. im sure you have a friend who is handy with a screwdriver

I have the 48" version of that light. My problem was my 72 bow tank was to narrow at the ends for the legs to fit. so I inverted the legs so intead of the legs bending outwards they curved inwards. I`ll bet you it works

no because the legs still stick off the front and the back... the length isnt a problem for her, the width is

I understand. if you invert the legs in their tracks to curve inwards rather than outward your footprint will be smaller (not as wide) as the fixture itself. It will look almost top heavy but it should be fine, my tank has been this way for 1 1/2 years now. this does not effect the length of the footprint if you do it right just the width. I cant remember xactly how I did it but you need to swap the legs out in the right configuration. you just need to look at it and I`m sure you can figure it out. I actually did it in the lfs b4 I bought it to make sure
I`ll try to post a pic later. I`m having trouble re-sizing my pics to post.

I like the idea of hanging it from the wall. Your lease should state that you are allowed a certain amount of holes per wall, mine always did. If you exceed that amount, they can charge you--but I've never seen anyone do that.

My vote is to hang it.
