I suddenly have a new thought....

its very common known corals are very sensitive lives. any environment sudden change can lead them to dead or bad health.

in the nature, sun light is slowly change the light intensity from low to high or high to low. but in our home aquarium, most of the people just turn their light on / off within just 1 second. which a very big change for the coral environment.

now, i'm thinking if i add a light controller and adjust the light intensity from low to high daily instead of just turn it on / off instantly. it probably create a more comfortable environment for the corals. what u guys think?

You may find it interesting that the natural environment of corals is actually a vey hostile place and the environment in our tanks is far more stable and "friendly" than a coral reef. In the wild corals suffer through predation, physical damage, rapid and at times extreme temperature changes, changes in salinity, available light changes and storms that cause powerful waves and sediment that frequently smothers corals. Somehow they continue to thrive and grow. Just about the only thing that is fairly constant is the alk, calcium and magnesium, this is usually where people run into issues in an aquarium, as well as pollution from what we add.

The most dangerous thing our corals and fishes are exposed to in our tanks is us.

I'll agree we are the limiting factor in aquariums. I don't think there has been any scientific evidence to support that a sunrise-sunset lighting in home aquariums is benefficial to coral. I do know however, non scientifically that certain fish can and will get spooked and dart around or up out of the tank with sudden on/off light changes. My onespot fox is one of those fish. He spooks easily.
