Hi all!

Long time no see (or should I say long time no post). It's a sad day for me...I definitly think that Felix is a gonner...

Let start by the beggining...When I bring it back at home, I noticed he had a little spot on the shell...no panic, this will probably go away with is first molt. But for now a month, Felix began to be really difficult to feed...he start to refuse to eat a lot of things that he like in the past(like mussel, silverside, live hermit crab and snails)...time goes by and things don't go better...He start to be reclusive, never go out of is cave...

This morning, he goes out...what a mess!!! Is shell is cover with a lot of spot...:( Now, he is really slow, don't react to anything...stay in the open, but don't really move anything except is eyes...Poor little baby...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we suffer of the unfamous shell desease...

Anything to do to help my poor little baby or he's definitly a gonner???

I'm sad...:(

Post a picture and one of the more experienced members who have tackled shell disease should be able to confirm whether or not it is shell rot. Doesn't sound too good but nature is really really weird, anything can happen. I'm sorry to hear about your hardship. Just have to hope for the best. Hang in there!

Humm...not sure I have some pics...

The first spot appears maybe 1 month after Felix enter is new home...Is the phosphate can be an issue in a mantis tank? I take care about the NO3 level, but I completely forgot about the PO4...maybe this is the cause of is loss?

BTW...Felix was gone...:-( Poor little baby...

Thanks for the kind word koshmar and lionbacker...I really feel sad about Felix...I rarely loss anything, but it's always hard when it happen...I really love all the little beast I bring back home, that was always an heartbreaker when something happens to one of them.:-(

But I'll order a new one for august and learn from my mistakes(I've already improved the filtration system of my mantis tank and I'll be more assiduous on water change)...the next will be the One!;-)

Sorry to hear, Cath...

I think maybe you should take the tank down and start it all over again because whatever microorganism it is that causes shell disease is probably still existant in the tank...
