I want a G smithii

I just set up my 10g tank and Ive decided I want to go with a G smithii. Will it break a 10g glass tank? Where can i get one? can I see some pics of yours? thx

G smithii= hard to find. Almost no chance of anything under 5" breaking aquarium glass unless it continually beats on it. If it will make you feel better you could line the bottom with acrylic. Check out Tim's thread (near the very tippy top of the board) Because he is a G. smithii too.

Unfortunately mantis aren't like fish. For the most part people look at Mantis as a nuscense animal and don't spend any time trying to ID them for the few enthusuasts looking for them. The only exceptions are Peacock Mantis and N.wennera that come from Tapmpabaysaltwater.com.

look for people selling "Baby peacock mantis"

g.smithiis are often miss-labled that way. good luck, they are worth the wait.

craigs list, call LFS in a 100-200 mile radius. wait. look around, scan through the local club forums in your area, check ebay.

um, bribe dr roy with somethin cool.

thats what i went through for like a month, only to have one pop up for 12.99 at my local LFS. total luck

K are n Wennerae active, from personal experience?

I have a 2 1/2 in. Wennerae in a 12 gal cube. She is very active and inquisitive. She is out and about most of the day. Hope that helps.

I still dont know which one to get I want a G smithi but they are hard to find and i dont know if it will be active. i dont want one if im only gonna see it at feeding time. Maybe ill get an N Wennerae

Any type of mantis can be shy... It all depends on their personality

then your only garuntee would be to observe the matis you bought's behavior.

mantis shrimp have unique individual personalities. i think the point people are trying to make is that you cant be garunteed that a mantis will be active just by the particular species.

some species do diff, stuff because of their specific characteristics.

but if you want an assured active mantis, you'd have to see it comfortable in a complete set up that it has been in for some time.

cont do a peacock? Smithii or Wenne are great. but no way to tell how your specific mantis will act. maybe he had a traumatic childhood, or has low self esteem. you never know
