I will be in SF in two weeks from AZ...............

I will be in SF for 10 days in about 2 weeks. I was just wondering if there are any must see LFS in the downtown area? I also wanted to check out the public aquarium down on peir 39. How is it? Are there any other Public aquariums in the bay area the have good displays of reef related stuff? Thanks John

Haven't been to the one on Pier39 simply because of the price it has tourist trap written all over it, that's not to say its good but those who have gone haven't been very pleased with it.

There is the Steinhart aquarium located on Howard Street between 5th and 6th I believe that does have some reefy stuff going on, however you should note this is a temporary location until the grand daddy of reefs opens up sometime next year.

Ocean's Treasures on Duboce is a nice store to visit and probably is the "nicest" store in SF. However I'm unsure how accesable it is to public transit or what not, as it is a tad away from the "downtown" area.

I agree.. Steinhart Aquarium is much better. There isn't a lot to see at the one on Pier 39. I think it's called Bay Aquarium or something like that.

i went to the one on pier 39 last week and was very disappointed it was very expensive and very small IMO. I haven't been to the Steinhart but i have heard about it, (after i took my family to the pier 39 one), and heard it was really cool. i need to make it out to check it out!
anyway, enjoy your stay!

Thanks Guys!!! I checked out the Steinhart aquarium web Site. Looks pretty bad A$$. 20,000 reef with 20,000 watts of metal halide display, thats what I want to see. I cant wait. You all are luck to be living in SF. Over a 100 degrees today in Phoenix, Already,
