I would like to head this off before its an issue...

Can someone please help me out and tell me what these growths are?

A bit of back round, my tank just came off a fallow period about a month and a half ago due to ich. I just noticed this reddish brown growth about a week ago. I believe the white stringy growth is bacteria... or all the growths are bacteria but I am having a hard time finding information on what to do. Most of what I have read has been with carbon dosing and I do not do that. I run an algae scrubber as my sole way of exporting nutrients. I have never had any algae issues in the DT except what is normal during initial start up (diatom, etc.). My bio load is pretty light with 3 fish and just corals, couple of BTAs.

Corals and fish are all happy and showing growth.

Water parameters since I checked this afternoon.

Ammonia - 0 API
Nitrite - 0 API
Nitrate - 0 API
Phos - 0.00 Hanna

Recently I did notice that my alk was low, so I have been dosing a couple cap fulls of eight.four each day to raise the number. Also, noticed magnesium was on the low end at 1260, so Im dosing to raise to 1350.

So here are the pics and please tell me what you think. I just want to see if I can head off this issue before it really becomes one, or if its something I should just wait out then I would like to know that to give me some piece of mind.

First pic is on my sump wall because that is the best place I could get a pic of the white strings. It also tends to grow on my overflow in the back of the tank, it strings around the rocks, and sometimes its on the glass of the display kinda like what you see in the picture.

Second picture is from a frag plug that I recently got from another reefer. The slime was not there until after it had been in my tank.

Thanks, any insight is appreciated.

Somewhere, somehow a food source was available to the bacteria. I wouldn't worry about it in the sump or overflow box. In fact, I view it as a type of scrubber. I clean my sump and equipment about every 6 months. I shut down my return, clean the bacteria strands and sponges by scrubbing the sump walls, floor and equipment and then pump it all out and add new water. In 6 months it will have grown back which required nutrient uptake. Repeat.

As far as the frag plug, I can't tell from the pic. Just pull it out and scrub it off with a toothbrush and rinse in a seperate container of tank water. You'll probably never see it again.
