Ich and hypo

I have just reached five weeks of hypo with a blue tang and so far so good. He is eating and seems good. But over the last week six to eight spots have formed on him. They do look like signs of lymphocytis but I would like to hear what chances people think it may be ich?

Do you have a picture? Cryptocaryon irritans looks like salt sprinkles.

Hope these are good enough. Remember he has been in hypo for 32 days at a controlled 1.008 salinity. I think it is lympho but i am too cautious to add him to the DT yet. Just doing regular water changes and keeping him fed. Plan to lift out of hypo after 42 days. Spots started showing on the 23rd March (about seven days ago)

good pictures. doesnt look like ich to me. almost looks like sponges on him (although i know it isn't). my guess would be lympho, but have never seen so many on a fish. could it be an external parasite or worm?

The nodules on the head don't look like crypto, but the ones on his body do. Hard to say what this is. I'm not a big fan of hypo as there is too much margin for error.

It is not like any whitespot i have seen before. I am definitly used to seeing a sprikling of salt like spots all over the fish. The fact that the initial spots/nodules have been there for over 7 days also suggests it may not be whitespot. I would have assumed to have seen it drop off by now.

I guess i am lloking for a range of opinions.

Still keen for some more opinions on tang. It still has the spots/nodules so I am moving more and more to lympho. The fish is still in hypo and eating and looking good - colour body thickness etc etc

here is an article on lympho http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/m/#publication?id=FA181

those spots look like ich to me, but a lot of others say different. I have read in numerous places that ich may not be killed in hypo in certain situations. you can do the treatment 100% right and still have the parasite alive afterwords. I have two tangs in QT now and i think I'm doing copper this time. I haven't seen any signs of ich yet, but I think I'm going on the preventive side.

The spots are getting bigger and there are a few more. They are not falling off yet and some are now almost 9 days old. He is still in hypo, eating and he is not flashing.

I think I might lift the salinity back up and observe for a few weeks and see if anything develops. If it is ich I assume it will cycle and get worse. If the spots don't disappear then it is likely lympho. Let me know if that thinking is wrong.

I don't think ich spots grow in size. I only had one fish with ich though so I'm not positive. I did hyp right away and never saw signs again.

White spot or lympho

White spot or lympho

Thanks for the feedback. Still watching the tang and considering maybe trying the transfer method as a double check.

Tank transfer will remove ich from the picture. If the "spots" are growing,, however, that is not ich. Lymphocystis will look "fluffy" or "puffy" as opposed to "discrete". Any labored or quick gilling?

There is what I would consider increased grilling but this may also be a sign of increased stress. I will being lifting the salinity back to normal and then watch him for a week. As the spots/nodules are not dropping off and are actually showing some growth I am beginning to believe this is lympho and not ich. I will keep everyone in the loop and how things are going. Luckily he is also eating well and his colour is looking good.
