ich confusion

I had an ich outbreak that took me by suprise. I only had 3 fish a royal gramma, false perc clow, and yellow watchman goby. All 3 fish had lived together for at least 8 months with no problem. The gramma started hiding and I noticed the clown bullying him, which was odd as they always got along fine. Then I noticed the grammas health was fading and figured it might be his time. The gramma did die and then i noticed an ich outbreak on the clown, a few days later he dissapeared Now only my ywg remains but I see no signs of ich.

I have 2 questions

1. Where did the ich come from?? I haven't added any new fish since the gramma about 8 months ago. Can ich hitch in on corals or inverts?

2. How long should I wait with the goby showing no symptoms before adding another fish?

Don’t know about the goby but everything I have read says that it can hitchhike on inverts, corals and rock. During the tomont stage (reproductive stage) they can lie dormant for up to 28 days.

i would get your goby into a hospital tank and treat for ich. hypo would be best.

leave your main tank fallow for 6 weeks before reintroducing the goby and any new fish should be quarantined for at least 4 weeks to make sure ich is not reintroduced.

this is the only way to be sure you dont have ich in your display.

why cant we treat in main display, since if we only have fish and live rock. only reason im saying this is i have a zebra eel in my display. dont know how hard it will be to catch him. so cant we just to hypo in our flowr tanks? thank you

You can do hypo in your main display as long as you have no inverts.

It is on the whole easier in a hospital tank as the volumes are less.
