I had ich and lost alot of fishes, i decided to take all my fishes and QT them for 8 weeks. (I heard, to be on the safe side) i got most of my fish from my LFS. My livestock were, 1 yellow tang, 2 black/white clowns, 5 small chromis, 1 saphire damsel, 1 purple dotty back, and 2 firefishes. All in a 40 gallon breeder. My question are:

Too much fish that it mightbe caused stress leading to ich?
i QT'd new fish with copper and i had one large. (4inch) clarkii l. I decided to get her a pair, so i got a smaller clarkii. I acclimated the new clarkii into the QT and i realized it had ich. It didnt last 24 hours, i would think that my copper wouldve arleast fixed it. After this, the next day my big clarkii clown died in the QT also, after he's been there for about a month. Did ich spread in a QT? What caused his death ? He was a fat clarkii that ate alot and was doing well.

Take care of the fish you have before you get any more. Get them healthy and back in the main tank. Make sure the main tank does not have ich. When everything is staying healthy in the main tank then you can get a few more fish and quarantine them. Go slow, ich can be tough to get rid of.

I agree with that is too many fish for a 40b, but you should never have any tang in a 40b. If your LFS knew of your DT tank size that is another strike against them for advice.

You can go to Live Aquaria website and look up any fish you are thinking of getting and it will tell you all about that fish including what size minimum tank for that fish. It's not perfect but in most cases it is spot on. The other thing you can do is come here and ask questions before you buy any fish.

I also left comments on your other thread. Find a new LFS and take it slow. You can keep several fish in a 40b if you have a sump and lots of LR for filtration. I've got a 40b with a 20g sump and I would have no problems with keep 8 or more fish. But the right kinds of fish are the key. If you have too many fish you will end up with ammonia because you don't have the way to clean their waste out of the system. Your biologic bacteria would become overloaded due to not having enough of them if you put too many fish in your tank.

Hope this makes sense. Just woke up and starting on first cup of coffee :D
