ich in reef tank help

I have a Kole Yellow Eye Tang that has gotten some ich. I have coral in my reef tank and do not want to harm them. Anyone got any ideas or advice for getting rid of the ich on the tang?

Only 2 options:

1. Remove and treat all fish and leave the tank without fish for 8-12 weeks.

2. Keep him fed and the water perfect and hope that he makes it through. But know that it means that ich is in the tank, and will always be in the tank, and at any moment it may flare back up and wipe out everything.

I heard that hyposalinity around 1.019 will kill it. Shouldn't be a big deal for your fish but could bother your corals.

Make sure to read the stickies if you decide to treat. It is important that you do it carefully or it won't be effective. There are no reef safe treatments for ich, anything that preports to be is not being truthful.

That is not true. Metronidazole on food or in the water column is completely reef safe treatment for ich.

No ich treatment is a guarantee. I have used metronidazole for the treatment of ich for many years now and it is quite effective. Probably about 90% effective for me.
That being said the other post shows a kole tang that looks like it has septicemia, not ich. So no ich treatment is going to help.

So an update for my Kole Yellow Eye Tang. Got the fish caught and put into my hospital tank. Using some ich treatment on the fish. Hoping for the best.

This guy knows what he's talking about. I would really pay attention here.

Septicemia is nearly impossible to treat. Make sure the water quality is excellent. Make sure it is not getting stressed out by other fish. Make sure it is eating a good variety of foods and maybe enhance foods with amino acids or vitamins. Metronidazole, or Kanaplex are good gram negative effective medications. If possible keep the lights out on the aquarium while the fish is ill and remove carbon from your filter as it will remove the medication from the water.
