Ich or Brook?!?!

Hello,

I have been searching all over the place for a concrete source of info about the differences between Brook and Ich, and how to differentiate and treat.

Anyone have this info?

Both can have small white spots.

Ich usually involves minor respiratory distress, flashing, and eventually a loss of appetite.

Fish with brooklynella are usually lethargic, often hiding continually, have more severe (than what is usually seen with ich) and rapidly worsening respiratory distress, sometimes cloudy eyes, and usually lots of mucous sloughing off of the body of the fish. I have found the mucous to be the most easily recognizable difference. If you suspect brook, it must be treated quickly. Often even that will not be soon enough as this disease kills quickly.

Ich can be treated with copper or the tank transfer method.

Brooklynella should be treated with formalin.

Hmmm...the blue hippo i have hides a lot and have a hard time breathing...she's been like this for a week now. is it safe to say its brook?

A week is a long time for brook. I'd consider other causes.
