ich question

I got a few corals (large brain, trumpet, small zoa frag) from a friend that had a fish die of ich about 3 weeks ago. I have the corals in a small tank that I use to QT new fish. The QT tank does have sand, live rock, snails, crabs etc. in it along with the new corals. Do I just need to keep the corals in the QT tank for a while? Is there anything else I should do?

Thanks

Do you have a "reef grade" light on the QT tank? Otherwise, the corals will die after a week or so. Your safe bet is to QT the corals for 72 days (same as going fallow), just in case any protomonts or tomonts have attached themselves to the surface of the corals. Especially since you know these corals came out of a tank that has ich in it.

+1 to HumbleFish comments.

Also, make sure you don't add any fish to that QT during the 72+ days of fallow or else it will be wasted time. I assume it is fishless right now or are you still QT'ing fish?

What have been your fish QT procedures in the past? Are you just observing the new arrivals, or are you doing TTM, Copper or Hypo? If not one of these methods, you likely have Ich in your DT anyway, and just aren't having any severe outbreaks to the point of seeing visible distress signs in the fish. If that is the case, then running your new corals fallow for 72 days won't really do anything meaningful for you.

It is a 12gal tank and I have a reef breeders par38 bulb on the tank. I do not have any fish in the tank now. I have not been treating during the QT of the fish. I have just been observing.

Thanks
