Since all my fish are in QT for the next month and a half I got to thinking about what I can do with my tank. I just upgraded, the tank came down with velvet, and I lost almost everything (all but the tangs... go figure). Anyways, is there any reason why I cannot corals in my new display? I was going to add fish and then move on to corals but then this happened. It isn't technically new since it was an upgrade and velvet can't host corals (right?), so i was wondering if it would be a problem adding corals over the next month and a half? There are no meds in the tank, only the cleaning crew and live rock atm.

Normally, if you suspect that the display tank has Ich in the system, you need to leave the tank fallow for a minimum of 8 weeks (I would recommend 10 weeks). Although corals can not host Ich, you are taking a chance by adding new corals to the tank during this wait period. There is a chance that some of the water (although very minimal amount of water) from the new corals could be contaminated. Just my thoughts.
I would of course go through normal dipping procedures with the corals so there shouldn't be any more of a risk than any other time right?
There really isn't a suspicion of a parasite problem in my DT, I know there is and it is starting the fallow period (has been fallow for about a week). The parasite is velvet, which isn't supposed to live for more than 30 days (usually only 7-8 days) in the free swimming form when it doesn't have a host. I figured I was going above and beyond going 6 weeks.

Yes you can, but you have to count the period of fishlessness starting from the last introduction of new corals.
fishlessness eight to ten weeks after you have added the last coral.

Corals are hard to QT because of their special light requirement.
Fishlessness for eight weeks without proper light is not recommended for corals.
Try to get all the corals you want first and place in DT for eight weeks.
Or you have to get a small light setup for qt.
Snails can take eight weeks of fishlessness without special light.
