So I've done all the searching and reading, but didn't run across my question. I don't have a QT (please bag in the the new rookie mistakes after you help me save my fish please:) ) what should I be looking a doing?

How do you set up a QT tank anyways?

Depending on what is in your tank you could either use copper in the main tank or start hyposalinity in the tank. Both of those are recommended to be done in QT but can be done in your current tank. You will lose all of your inverts in both of these senarios.

If you don't/can't remove the die-off, it will polute the water.

Are you asking what to do if you can't have a quarantine and are buying new fish, or do you have fish that are sick and want to know how to treat them without a quarantine?

Most people use very simple setups for their quarantine tanks. The tank is usually small, 20-40 gallons and some people use Rubbermade tubs, with a heater, powerhead, and either a sponge filter or a HOB filter. Lights are optional as long as there is some ambient light in the room during the day. Some sort of cover (bird netting over a frame works well) that still allows air movement is a good idea.
