Ich while in QT with cupramine?

Is it common?

I have a pair of clowns that had a few spots. Spots fell off in fomalin dip. 5 weeks in qt with cupramine, display tank empty.

1-2 weeks after back in the display, a few spots again.

Back to QT after a formalin dip. They looked fine for a couple weeks and now I see a little "salt" spot on one and saw him scratch himself once on a pipe.

Levels have been 0.5 by Salifert test as recommended.

Just wondering if anyone's had this happen; 2 weeks clear then a spot while on copper?

In theory copper is "bullet proof" - so long as you have the proper concentration for the recommended treatment period. This would require regular testing (as copper tends to precipitate over time) with a test kit that properly measures copper. Cupramine is particulary hard to measure and as I recall there used to be only 3 test kits that could reliably read it - Seachems, Red Sea, and the newer Salifert. Also .. all test kits become worthless when out of date .. something to check.

Another possibility maybe that you need to keep your DT fallow for longer than 5 weeks. While 5 weeks works for some many keep there tanks fallow for at least six weeks and some longer.

I would forgo the formalin dips .. I doubt they are particularly effective against ich and don't see any upside if your treating with copper - also formalin and copper don't mix well together.
