Ich with Flame Angel

Hey guys, i'm about to have a mental breakdown here. Sorry in advance. I have a 40 gallon tank, FOWLR, 0AMM, 0NITRITE, 20NITRATE, 78 degrees, canister filter, 3 inch full live sand bed, Natural sea water.

Tank has been set up for quite a while with 2 clownfish, 1 long spine urchin, 2 coral banded shrimp, and several snails and hermits.

I put in a healthy looking Flame Angel, 6 days ago. Yesterday I noticed a cloudy eye and he's acting like he's slightly visually impaired. Freaked me out, but hey, maybe it'll fix itself. Tonight, I noticed the...ich. White spots on his fins. I don't need to be a huge saltwater hobbyist to know in MY situation, this is a death penalty.

I'm in an absolute panic. I have spent months, and thousands of dollars on this tank, and I don't want any fish or inverts to suffer. Everyone is still eating fine, behaving normally it seems, nothing about the tank strikes me as unusual for right now. Flame is grazing, eating algae pellet food that falls towards the bottom. I heard crank up the temp to 82, so I did just now.

Whats the big deal you may ask? I'm a complete idiot and did not quarantine anyone. Which actually worked for me, until this Flame Angel. I don't even HAVE a QT, hospital tank, or know how to work one. I was "winging" it, which you don't need to throw the "I told you so" stuff out there, I know.

I've read, and read, and read but it sounds to me like everyone is about to die a slow painful death and since it never really goes away, my display tank is a going to be a virtual trash can soon. I love my tank, I can't believe I hurt them all and gave them a death sentence with this one angel having ich.

Any ideas? Or should I say my goodbyes and apologize before they all slowly end up dead? I'm sorry if i'm sounding dramatic but for a grown adult man to be on the verge of tears is insane to me. Is it too late to pull him and cut my losses so I can save the clowns and everyone else? It's a 60 dollar fish, but it's a $2500+ project. I am just so lost. I'm new to this hobby completely.

Thanks for any input. I've always tried to do the best for my tank but I really messed this up bad, and now living creatures will suffer because of me.

Don't panic, it'll be ok if you take your time and don't rush. I have had really bad luck with flame angels and copper. I also think hyposalinity treatment is hit or miss. Get a couple 5 gallon buckets or if you have more fish, brute trash cans, a heater and a couple air stones. Read the tank transfer sticky for more information.

Drama is an understatement. You need a QT. All of your fish need to be treated, ich is in the tank, not just on one fish. The DT will have to stay fishless for 9+ weeks. Read the ich stickies and decide how you want to proceed. I agree with h2so4hurts, copper is tough to do with FAs. But you may have to make a decision; TT, copper, or hypo are your only choices. You nee two QT tanks/containers for TT, I think hypo is iffy and very demanding. Ich is quite easy to cure; when caught early. There is no reef-safe ich cure.
