kick ich = no cure
ich attack = no cure
copper = proven to cure
hypo-salinity = proven to cure
raising temp = freshwater ich cure only
UV = no cure
and the list goes on, the only true proven ways to eliminatre ich is copper, hypo salinity and the tank transfer method. there is no miracle pill, or short cuts. any other method is not 100% and definatly not proven over the past 40 years to work like the above proven methods. research, and research some more and learn the truth behind myths and facts.
I'm at the tail end of an ich episode. Having lost a hippo and a flasher wrasse I am now successfully treating a royal gramma. I am so far very impressed with Cupramine. I suggest following the directions at http://www.bestfish.com/saltich.html. It is harmful to invertabrates and is a Quarantine Tank only treatment. The gramma looks wonderful and I have a post asking people how long I should leave the fish in the treatment before reintroducing it to my display tank. My post is: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1800551.
I have always beaten ich by just riding it out and not doing anything. I won't however get up on a soapbox and preach about that because I have been at the center of to many arguments over the issue. I will add however that whatever method you choose to treat your fish with, you have to do it to all of them and leave the tank empty for 6 weeks in order to effectively kill the parasite. Don't waste your time if your just going to separate a couple fish.
My hippo and clown trigger came down with ich last week they were still eating so I just loaded food with garlic and selcon then my lion fish came down with it and quit eating almost immediately and just laying on the bottom for 3 days I really thought he was a goner.I fixed a qt tank and was going to treat with cuprimine but he's so big I didn't have anything to get him out with .I had enough kick ich for one dose so I said what the hell its worth a try.that was friday,saturday he was swimming around and eating again .I went to lfs store thats 1 1/2 hours away and got some more kick ich and did 2nd treatment .now all 3 fish are almost completely cleared up.I know everyone says kick ich doesn't work but it worked for me this time. I guess its like everything else in this hobby what works for one may not work for the other.hope this helps.
