Ich?

When I upgraded my tank (45G to 150G) I bought a fish and dumb me I didn't QT and it got Ich in my tank. I could not catch my fish and they all eventually died except 3 of them. Those 3 (yellow wrasse and 2 chromis) did not show signs of ich. I did not introduce any fish for 3 or 4 months. After that I bought 3 more fish, QT'd, then put them in the tank. All good and no ich. Then I bought another 3 more, QT'd, then put them in. One fish did pick on these two for the first day or two. Then all of a sudden the ich is showing up on one fish and starting and another of the 3 newest fish. Long story short, are the fish with ich because they were being picked on and stressed out? And are the original 3 immune?

Thanks

Ich is caused by the crypt parasite. Some fish are less susceptable than others. Even though several fish, both old & new never showed signs the crypt was still in your tank. Regardless of quarantining, all fish added are susceptable since they'll be introduced to an infected system. The only sure way to rid yourself of this parasite is to remove all fish & treat them in a QT with copper or hyposalinity. At the same time let your DT sit fallow for a minimum of 8 weeks. By then all crypt in the DT should be dead because of a lack of a host fish.

Stress can help cause the onset since it's possible the stress affects their immune system. But stress without crypt in the tank, cannot cause ich.

You're welcome. It's not fun to treat. I went though the process this summer. But now everyone's doing well. I'm now a strong proponent of quarantining all additions.

Horrible. I hate dealing with ich. My blue tang had it for a couple months and it slowly went away with garlic and some medicine. He will get a spot every now and then but looks healthy. Just remember that although your fiah may look ich free it may be infested in the gils

Good point on the gills. I will get some garlic today. Never going to buy fish again until I can have my display tank fish free for 8-10 weeks.
