Ich

Say if you were to have ich on one fish in your main display tank, but you took that fish out of your main display tank, would your other fish be able to fight the ich off and not get ich? I just need to know b/c i might be adding a purple and dont have a qt and cant get one until a while, but if it were to get ich the lfs said they would take him back for me and treat him. So is it possible that he could be the only one to get ich but then i would him out of the tank and the other fish could fight the ich off? Am i right to think this.

Its possible but there is no deff answer. Even though your fish may be fighting it off it may still be reproducing. IMO your better off not chancing it. Setting up a qt now may save you alot of headaches in the futre.
Also in my opinion any LFS that says its ok to add it and if you get ich we will treat it, is being nice, but isnt giving good advice. The should either hold it and QT for you or suggest that you get a qt as this is the proper way to introduce new inhabitants while keeping your chances for disease at a minimum. Seems to me like thay just want you to buy the fish wether sick or not.

Thank you for the quick reply, have you ever heard of cooper dips to get rid of ich on a fish, the lfs said if he does get ich take him out and put him in a bucket and put a few drops of cooper in there and it will get rid of the ich if i leave the fish in their for 10-15 mins instead of setting up a qt.

Yes I have heard of copper drips

Unfortunately if the ich is in your system you would be doing copper dips and then adding them back to a system which contains ich, again not solving your problem.

If I read that incorrectly and you want to do a copper dip before adding him to your tank it may work, it may not. IMO copper needs to be done very carefully or it could have ill effects possibly resulting in death. make sure you get some good info on the dips before trying. There are some hobbiests who do dip certain fish before adding to their main display maybe they will chime in and give you some info.
On the other hand you could treat in QT with hypo which also should solve your problem but I understand you dont have a QT right now. If its the $ you can use something as simple as a rubbermaid container as a QT.

Like i said if your thinking of doing a copper dip Id first wait for some more input to make sure its done properly GL!

I have some lr and bunches of snails and was reading that when you do hypo you may kill the worms, crustaceans, etc, and make the water quality go poor. Would hypo be a good thing to do in my main tank for 14 days like it suggests.

Just thought i would let you know, i have just turned a 10 gallon (thats all i had) into a qt with cooper. Have i made the right choice to make this my qt for the time being? I am new to qt's and would like to know how to keep the qt'ed fish in there, whether they be infected or not infected. The temp of the qt is 78-80 is this ok. I have figured that it would be most wise of me to make a qt for it will save me a lot of money in the long run when i plan to purchase livestock. Oh forgot to mention how often should i be putting in the cooper, its says once a month but how often should i put it in.

the copper i cannot help you with, sorry i have never used it

If your using copper you shouldnt be doing hypo also. Hypo in your main tank will kill inverts, snails, LR and LS basically everything except fish. The main tank should just be fishless and the ich will die out in 6 - 8 weeks

Oh another question how long should i keep the new fish in there, to make sure that all the ich, if he does have it to be off of him and not be introduced to my main tank? Thank you.

First of all, what type of fish are we dealing with? There are some fish out there that cannot be exposed to COPPER.

Is a 10 gallon big enough for this fish or will it need a bigger tank? First of all, make sure you have ich and not a mistaken identity. I knew someone that went through all the trouble to get their Naso tang to an LFS to put it into a copper tank. That day everyone found out the Naso didn't have ich and it was just stress spots. Wouldn't want to make that mistake right?

Is there such thing as stress spots? I have never even heard of stress spots. What do they look like? Are they small like ich or big white patches, b/c my naso gets big white spots at night when he sleeps but when the lights come on they go away. I am looking at getting a purple tang, and set up the qt so i dont risk anything going into my main display. Want to keep the water close to perfect as possible.

Yes there is such a thing called stress spots. Some fish lose all their color or most of it and go pale. Others get spots or blotches, it all depends on the fish. I work at a company called Reefs And Rainforests and everytime I go to catch a fish or acclimate them, they always lose their color or get spots. Even damsels!

What I think your talking about is fish blend in their enviroment at night to avoid being seen by their natural predators. For example, your Naso probably get blotches and spots as a form of camoflauge. They lose their bright coloring and get a more dull color.

A picture would help a lot. Can you post one please?
