Can Ich kill a big tang which is fat and eating?

Ich is capable of taking out any fish. most fish are pretty tolerant to high nitrate. 5ppm is not very high.

Yes

No. Ich causes Ich. Its an organism that lives in the water column and survives by using hosts (our fish) Bad water quality can make a fish more susceptible to an outbreak but if its there at all you have a problem. You really should QT the fish / treat the Ich in the QT tank and leave the main tank fallow for 4-6 weeks.

How big of a tang? In what size tank?
A large tang in a smaller tank may get stressed, and be more susceptible to ich.
I have never treated for ich. I now have a good QT procedure, but found good husbandry, and feeding will keep them healthy.
