Ick or velvet question

I was wondering how come my 3 wrasses have not gotten ick or velvet and all my other fish have?? I've taken out my tangs and have them all in hospital tang being treated for ick or might be velvet and my wrasses have been in my tank for over 3 weeks by them selves and still have not got ick or velvet. The wrasses were in my DT when I had the massive outbrake but did not get sick! Why is that? If my wrasses don't get sick how long should I wait till i introduce my tangs back into my DT. My tangs have been in the hospital tanks for about a good 3 to 4 weeks. I don't want to keep them in my hospital tanks any longer than I have to! Any input on this situation would greatly be appreciated!!

The problem with ick is that it lives in the gills before moving on to other parts of the fish, so even though you don't see it dosn't mean it's not there. Some fish are just more susceptible to the parasite, just like not everyone who is exposed to a flu will get sick. Unfortunately if you do not treat the wrasses then they can very easily re-infect your tangs.

My personal experience is that a healthy happy tang can have the occasional spot withought causing an outbreak. It is when fish are not getting an adequate diet or are overstocked that ick gets out of control. Obviously many other factors can contribute to an outbreak like the temp getting to high or possibly the PH dropping to low, basically anything that weakens the immune system of the fish.

My addvice is to read, read, read all you can about ick and then formulate your own opinion because everyone has their own.

I would guess that "forming your own opinion" will result in the majority of folks forming an "opinion" that involves the least effort. There is plenty of solid, scientifically backed information on this subject and we can learn the facts; or we can form opinions. BTW; is simply using a QT an "opinion' or a "fact"?. I do like the idea of reading a lot; but to read, while not considering the source, can really mess you up. There is presently an active thread that suggests ich appears from nowhere when a fish is "stressed" (actually, quite a common misconception). I sure don't want that sort of info in my ''opinion"
