ID a wrasse please

Hummm... I don't know. I looked up C. tonozukai and it doesn't have the bleuish color on the back like mine seems to be developping. But pictures of females fairy wrasses are soooo hard to find.
I think it looks a bit like a lubbock's but i'm sure someone here has seen a fish like mine somewhere.

I've grown quite fond of this little fish. It's really cute but if i could know what kind it is, maybe i could find her a mate. :)

it looks like a female c.walindi, c.flavidorsalis, c.lubbocki or c.adornatus hard to tell they all look alike..maybe a female c. tonozukai but i don't think it is tha but until you see it change sex or if it ever does it will be hard to tell which one it is...it is for sure not a flasher wrasse..i know it is not what you ordered but if it is a walindi that would be cool..you don't see them very often at all

The pictures i've looked at for C Walindi don't have any blue on them. Mine seem to be developping some blue or purple on the top of the head and back.
Oh any kind of fairy will be ok with me. I find this fish very cute, but has i said before, i'd like to know what it is to find it a mate.
:)

Ok now i have a better picture of my wrasses. It has grown quite a bit. And it also has darkened a bit over the head and back.

Still think it's a Walindi ?

I've been searching pics of fairy wrasses for 3 weeks now trying to ID a fish I bought. It was just sold to me as a Red Fairy Wrasse but it doesn't look like any of the pics that come up for c. rubripinnis which is what the LFS guy said it was after I asked again later. It looks EXACTLY like the fish you were trying to ID here. It started out as pretty much standard pinkish red all over with a black spot on the tail, like the first pic you posted of it. 3 weeks later it now getting dark bluish purple on its' head and along it's back like in these pics you posted. What did your fish end up looking like?? Did you ever find out what it was? Thanks.

I had a heck of a time identifying my wrasse too. This one looks like it could be a female C. flavidorsalis. Found pics of female and looks similar. Mine was female too so hard to find pics.

Maybe it is in the stages of changing. Could be hard to ID that way.

Do the fins on the Yellow Fin start out red? It's the dark blue/purple on the head and back that's throwing me off. And it has no signs of yellow on the fins. Just red. I know it's a juvenile so I'll have just have to wait it out, but I would like to get another so I can have a pair. When I was sure it was a c. rubripinnis I did not think it would be a problem. Now I'm unsure.

It's not Cirrhilabrus walindi because walindi is not available to the trade. AFAIK, almost no specimens have been collected for sale before with the exception of maybe one in japan.

It's sister species, Cirrhilabrus cenderawasih, is also not avaialble in the trade.

There are many species of fairy wrasses with the juvenile/female form looking exactly like that. i.e, red with a black caudal penduncular spot.

walindi, cenderawasih, marjorie, lubbocki, flavidorsalis, and a few more.

knowing the location in which the fish was collected from will help you to narrow your search.

my guess will be a female lubbock's fairy wrasse. there's some "tanning" near the dorsal region which could mean start of sex change and new colours coming out. when it turns into a male, you'll know your answer/

I've posted pics of my little fish. I'll keep trying to get a pic with the dorsal extended, but I can tell you now that it's all red.

Has here even a determination on this wrasse? I have a very similar fish, pink/red with yellow around the eyes and the same black spot.
