Zoanthid/SPS Killer
This guy came as a hitchiker in a Zoa colony I bought a while back. I actually think the zoas are growing over the skeleton of the remains of a colony of these. It is probably 1.5" across when open. The skeleton is about 3/8"-1/2" across and finger length. Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah everybody that comes over ignores my rare SPS and zoas and gravitate right toward that thing! I actually haven't spot fed it since I've had it and its been growing and doing great. I hit the tank with reef chili once a week, and rotate feeding between brine and marine algae cubes. Its under T5s and doing great.

I believe it looks like it may be a Fungia species. It is difficult to tell, as it is very inflated. Infantile stages of Fungia corals are attached to either rockwork or skeletal remains of a mother colony. Do you have any pics when it is closed?

No, I've actually never seen it closed aside from if I take it out of water! It looks like a finger bone (metacarpal) when closed.

Im on the fungia train ;)

And have never seen one grow quite like that, how awesome! And a hitchhiker nonetheless, too cool.

I think the odd growth may be due to it just panning out for light/flow/food amongst a colony of zoanthids.

Thanks for sharing :)
