ID Needed on White Stuff

I purchased a piece of coral from my LFS last week and put it into quarantine. I noticed a whitish growth appearing since then.

Can anyone help my ID the growth and, more importantly, help me with a cure?

PS I will attempt to post a photo. I think it is my gallery (first time, not sure I got it right!)

Pete....you can enter a larger photo file so the "white stuff" would be more viewable...or, better yet, open a free account at

www.photobucket.com

Once you have an account, you can enter larger photo files than you can in your RC gallery. Once you've entered a photo, copy and paste the third URL below your photo in your Photobucket album into the text of a post here in RC and the photo itself will show up when anyone reads your post.

Back to the "white stuff"....IF it's a fungus the best thing you can do is put it in an area with fairly high water flow. It's possible that a fresh water dip might help but I wouldn't recommend it because I haven't done one with that kind of coral. I believe it is Porites.

I really suggest that you get this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/18...002-3229240-2396839?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

It's excellent...and read about any coral you're interested in buying. I believe I read in there that the kind of coral that you have which is familiarly called "Christmastree Coral" because of the shape and colors of the worms that you see on it, is very difficult to maintain for any appreciable amount of time.

[hey, Dubbin, you wern't there when I typed this response...gee, you're quick]
