Got this one a couple weeks ago. It's the big one in the middle. Tag only listed Fiji Pink. Thanks.

strawberry shortcake mariculture! if it keeps its colors props :)

Thanks for the ID, I would have never thought of that one. I've been trying to ID it using the key with no success. The only thing that is throwing me off is the coloration of mine. Seems like a soft pink with some brown versus the bright pink and green on the shortcake pictures I've seen online. I suppose my colors might change in time, it's only been a few weeks. The other thing is how tightly packed the branches are on this one, i imagine this one might have been in some crazy high flow, it resembles a spiked ball and chain weapon.

I agree, it sure looks like A. microclados (Strawberry Shortcake)

Thanks for the link w/ pictures. That seals it. It's been a few weeks since it's been in my tank, it's future is still a little unclear. It has good PE, although it's color has darkened a bit more and the ends which looked like white new growth are much darker. It also tends to throw out it's mesenterial filaments everytime i do anything in the tank such as scraping the glass, or basting the rocks. I can tell it's much more sensitive than all my other aquaculture pieces. The only good sign is that i can tell it's base has grown a little around some epoxy i mounted it with.

That doesn't look like the same species to me......that and I've only ever know strawberry shortcake to come from Australia.

The species is definitely found in Fiji. Reefarmers talks about importing them from Fiji in '03. You may be right though, I'm not sure how regularly they are imported.

That seals it.

I should have been more clear. By 'looks like' I meant it looks similar to. I don't think you should settle on the ID just yet. There are a few features of your coral that look different. The thickness of some of the corallites looks pretty different from A. microclados. A closer image of a growth tip would be helpful.

As Kevin Kohen describes the species; "They sport very distinct, tubular-shaped axial and irregular tubular-shaped radial corallites that taper on the ends"
It was this unique tapering that made me think of the species.

Here's a closer picture that might help.

Okay, from that picture its clear that Darryl was right. It's not A. microclados. I'll try to give a better attempt after more digging around.
