ID pimple like on fish

Painted skin

New member
I woke up this morning to find this pimple like on one side of my scribbled angel. I'd like to know is something I Should be concern about and is it something that can spread to other fish??

The fish does not show any signs of stress and still very active and eating.

It might have started out as a puncture or a cut. But now it looks to me like it might be developing into an infection. I would start soaking his food in something like Vita-chem or Selcon or Zoecon for now, and hopefully those vitamins will boost his immune system to accelerate the healing process and fight off any infection. Step up your WCs as well. Clean water promotes healing & prevents infection.

But if he starts to look worse, you might need to pull him, QT and treat with antibiotics.

I use selcon and garlic with high quality flakes, pellets and frozen. As for water I do 25% bi weekly recently along with running a UV.

Will methylene blue work as a antibiotic in this situation with if it does it gets worse?

No, methylene blue is not an antibiotic.

For this particular case I would recommend using Maracyn 1 & 2 (Erythromycin & Minocycline). However, neither is reef safe (no antibiotic is). Over the years I've had particularly good success using this combination on large angels, including a Scribbled my dad & I had for over 10 years.

So since this morning the swelling has gone down a bit with further visual inspection it definitely looks like something sharp punctured him. Pretty sure it was the Tang. I will be adding Maracyn 1 & 2 to my fish medication cabinet just in case I need it down the road..

If you buy from a LFS, double-check the expiration date. Maracyn 1 & 2 only has a shelf life of around a year or so. Furan-2 is a cheaper alternative, but it isn't as gentle on the fish IME.
