I am thinking more along the lines of a lobophylia.

That is what i thought. But i have not seen this type of lobo before. Normally the lobo has some source of branching base

yes and no. I would rule out candy cane. I have had lobos that have had next to no base to them, more encusting you could say if that makes sense.

Got it. The reason i want to have it ID cuz my friend has a colony of Acan maxima look exactly the same, even the color

Not acans, too big, lobo based on the way the skeleton shows through.

Odds are your friend's isn't acan maxima either. Very few, if any, of them are in captivity at all. Mainly because they are only found in Omen waters, where no collection is allowed at all. Lately, there seems to be a number of vendors selling lobos as acan maxima.

That is the same type of coral most sellers were calling "maxima". Their has always been a debate in what this particular coral was and the price on them has been about $100-$150 a head.
