Montipora.
Usually called confusa or spongodes - seems like diff folks use one or the other. Choose your poison ;)

So they are one in the same?

Two different species.

Montipora confusa
Montipora spongodes

Given the fact that many of these corals we like so much can vary widely in growth form + exhibit a pretty wide range of characteristics ... it depends on whether the glass is half full, half empty, or not worth classifying.

IMO I'd label it by your source info, perhaps guess at one of these [or any number of others who it could turn out to be ... there's a lot of Montipora that seem to form similar shapes]:

Before I had nudis, I had one that IMO looks similar ... which I got ID'ed as confusa:

ummm, its a digitata. i have a confusa and it does not branch like that, also it have very defined ridges between the polyps. both pics on here i believe are digitata

Here is a close-up of the Spongodes in my tank. I've had it for almost two years, and it came from ORA as a Spongodes..

They are not the same. One of the reasons it's called a confusa... you guessed it, it's kindof hard to ID. A confusa has a couple of different growth characteristics, and depending on where it was fragged, and where it grew, it can look different. A confusa CAN look like a spongodes, but it can also look like a digi, or even look like a capricornis if it's fragged just right (until it grows out, that is). I personally believe that you have a spongodes, but it's the size of the polyps that makes it easier for me to tell. Without a reference in that pic, I just don't know. My spongodes has the biggest polyps by far of any monti I've ever seen. It's yellow base with dark tan polyps. It's my favorite colony. I've broken it 4 times by accident, and I've always superglued it right back where it was.
