I have some and the name everyone else uses is sympodium. I like them and they have not taken over even though I believe the are in the xenia family

Any green noticable? I seen these before as wht was said above 'sympodium' but also look like blue snowflake clove polyps.

I wish I could get another pic. What ever took out the acros and xenia wiped these guys out too which is why I want the name, to look for more. They had a purple base like star polyps do. No green whatsoever anywhere. And the polyps were very small. Smaller then gsp and sympodium. Closest thing I've found, if I can believe Google are "Japanese blue star polyps"

I have those then. My what i called sympodium might not really be the name. The pic online shows a much bigger polyp then mine with a purple to blue base. The polyps of mine are tiny. Not much bigger then a pencil lead. I will take a pic of mine or look and see if i have a pic and post it for you.

Found a pic and I guess I am wrong as they are a little bigger then a pencil lead but still pretty darn small.

for size referance the frag plugs are 1"x1"

It is a Clavularia or very similar species. I had bad troubles with a smaller species and had to kill it chemically.

the polyps have 8 tentacles, and the frilled edges/flat arrangement resemble Clavularia, but the underlying mat you describe doesn't. Most Clavularia grow via runners, as opposed to the rubbery mat that underpins GSP. My guess here is pipe organ (Tubipora musica), which grows as a mat but extends taller polyps that resemble Clavularia.
