there is a type of snail that makes those kind of hard tubes and spits out a web of mucous that catches food and the snail then reels it in, I have one that hitchhiked on a coral that I bought, weird little guy...

That is strange.
If it's not a duster, sponge or tunicate of some type I guess it could be a coral it almost looks like a bleached out snake polyp in a way. Is it in a dark place in the tank?
