Nah, not a goniopora. Count the tentacles on the polyps, there's 8. 8 = octocoral (soft coral). Goniopora have 24.

It looks a bit like an unidentified soft coral being aquacultured under the name "daisy xenia", but it's definitely not an exact match. See http://lonestar.offbeatmedia.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49&Itemid=59 and look for the fifth coral down to check it out, or see http://www.sustainablereefs.com/sites/default/files/LSA-xenia-daisy.jpg . The pinnules are very different between them, though, and I can't see the stalk structure well enough in your pic to make a comparison in that regard. "Daisy xenia" often grows single polyp stalks from a single common base, making it resemble pachyclavularia in some ways.

I'd wager on your coral being a xeniid, and possibly one closely related to the undescribed species I mentioned... but that's about all I can offer.

You're welcome. Sorry I couldn't give you more to go on than that. If you take any more photos of it, put them up and I'll see if there's anything else I can say. Photos with more detail of the stalks and the base would be handy.

Whatever it is, it's certainly intriguing.
