Frugal Reefer
I thought it was a Caulerpa floridana. But after looking at some pictures, I doubt it's it. It has the bubbles on the side like the floridana, but the majority of the blades is flat like the razor caulerpa. Let me know if you need more pictures. Whatever it is, it's great for my refugium and does a great job exporting nutrients.

richdragon32,

That is very cool. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is. That is the first time I have ever seen a Caulerpa like that. If you get a good ID for it please share it w/ us.

If you have or have access to broadband, scroll through the JPG thumbs on left. If you see something close, click it to enlarge. Didn't find it myself, but this is not a complete database, though really resepectable at 1780 + images. I probably scrolled right past it (poor eyesight) 'cause of thumbnails' size. Odd thing, yours looks like a fleshy version of a Halimeda sp (calcerous algae). Anyway - happy hunting!:D

That page made my brain hurt. It had many pictures, but no info at all associated with them save for a partial/abbreviated (assumed) name as the title of the image...

Which is really too bad since there are many, many different algaes listed there...

Any other ID sites hidden away in the nooks and crannies of the web?

Wow that link froze my computer... lol. Thanks mellen. Whatever this is I was selling it the Selling forum and on e-bay, nobody has seen this stuff before but it sold fast!

a better route to algaebase.org search

a better route to algaebase.org search

DensityMan - Site is set up a little differently from fishbase.net, but you just jot down species name, then enter algaebase.org in your browser search bar to get to main page, click search, fill in & click. Some things will have little data other than location, date and other stuff. Guessing an awful lot of those purty play-unts can't be kept or disintegrate if collected...boo hoo! That JPG tour is like a vacation snaps slideshow of another planet!!:hmm1:

richdragon32 - you saved some for yourself, right? Maybe a marine biology student or school will want to take a look at it.:cool:

Oh I have some for myself and I'm sure I'll sell them periodically when it outgrows again.

I am a marine biology student ;). I'm on summer break and can't give it to the professor yet. But my professor is not the tropical ocean specialist, but worth a try.

Ooooo Yeah...any nice rich folks out there wanna donate a bunch of rack mount servers to fishbase? They are highly deserving and an invaluable resource of no- nonsense info. They're non-profit, so I guess the gift would be tax deductible...

let it load first

let it load first

Memory is poor along with eyesight...Sorry anyone linking to algaebase gallery - IT TAKES A WHILE TO LOAD; just wait til your lower status bar has no more JPGs remaining before you start out. You must be on a broadband connection to use the gallery...too code-rich for dialup (1700 JPGs, most in high def at full scale). Main page, other features of algaebase ok for dial up.:fun4:

See one ya like? Struggle to get to main page (grrr!), or use my roundabout link above. From photo title, 1st 3 letters are genus, next letters are species. Enter "starts with" under both genus and species search bars accordingly with those 2 subsets of letters. Example; JPG title reads; Caumex (Caulerpa mexicana). Type in Genus bar - Cau, Then type in Species bar - mex...
