I bought this "leather" at Inland Aquatics when seasl took the trip up there in Jan. they could give me no ID besides "leather." i bought it because i have never seen anything like it and it is a very nice looking coral. It appears to be encrusting with very fine/small polyps that are brownish with silver/blue outlines. (these pulse... not like xenia, but mabe once a minute) i have searched the internet and have not found anything like this.

the best i can think of is that it is a Tonga encrusting leather. anyone else have any other ideas? I think that i am the only person in the area that has one of these... besides zt444a (i gave him a frag)

Marine solutions had one of those in the $45 coral tank about 3 weeks ago. I only noticed it because I saw a post you had made with this same picture a while back. Maybe you can see if it's still there and ask them about it.

That looks similar to the "mystery coral" that Barry Pearlman has. I think Anthony Calfo ID'd it for him, but I can't remember what he said it was. I'll ask Barry.

It is nice looking. Mine is startiing to grow fairly well Matt. It was money well spent.

Not to mention the guy that never showed for his frags, which you let me have as well...

E-mail the pic to Inland. I bet Morgan can tell you more about the coral.

morgan, the guy with the pony tail said that it was a "mystery Leather"

he said he has not gotten many in and did not know exactly what it was.

thanks for the help guys, and enjoy zt444a (mine took about 2 months to relly start groing, but now its goin nuts!)

well then yes, i have come that far with ID'ing it. i am almost positive that it is an encrusting leather. the only weird thing is that the polyps pulse occasionally
