Ideal way to plumb 1.5" return?

Have a Reeflo 'Cuda coming up from the basement and re-doing my plumbing due to original tank holes being only 3/4 inch and restricting too much. I'm going to drill a new hole at the top of the tank for the outflow and any advice on how to best get the water in the tank is appreciated...
