I want to start a Nano Cube to take to college with me. I was thinking of a 12g. Does anyone have any ideas or advice for me? Thank all who reply!!!

im new to this game and i started with a 12g nano. some people say that they smaller they are the harder they are to keep, and although ive had a few scares (usually just due to lack of knowledge) im loving it.

started at the beginging of the new year and so far have 2 clowns, cleaner shrimp, emeral crab, hermit crab, 5 turbos, and some green star ployps and a xenia!!

I started the salwater hobby with a 10 gallon nano. I did have quite a few years experience in freshwater so that gave me a base knowlege of cycling and water husbandry.

You should definitely read up on all the materials afforded to you in these forums. You'll definitely want to read up on cycling the tank as this applies to all tanks no matter what the size.

* just noticed that you have other tanks...works just the same as those.

i gave it a week and put some cured live rock in there, kept checking the water parmeters for around 2-3weeks and there wasnt any change, just aload of alge growing so i went to get a clean up crew and came home with a pair of gorgeous little clowns!!

also...do the nano cube usually come with a skimmer and lighting or is that seperate...what kind do you have(skimmer and lighting)?

I would look at the BioCube 8. They have the skimmer in them I think. Could be the redsea one not sure. But if you do water changes correctly...you don't need a skimmer

I have 6G love it. Moving to a 65 real soon though.

My college only allowed up to 10 gallon tanks, and everything had to be under water. So for my rat in my 10G, I put a layer of ceran wrap with some water on top of it. They didn't think that was funny. Might want to look at the rules.

does anyone have ideas for nano cube, skimmers, and lighting for a nano cube? Also ideas for coral, fish, and cleanup crew?
